About Me

Seth Kushniryk

Hi, My name is Seth Kushniryk.

I’m currently a PhD candidate in the Queen’s Economics Department. I have a Bachelor of International Economics degree from UBC and a Master of Arts degree from Queen’s. My undergrad thesis was an exploration of immigration effects on trade with the European Union and my Masters research was an application of Longitudinal Support Vector Regression to forecasting dynamic panel data. Currently I am working on measuring the effects of shill bidding on eBay auction outcomes.

Outside Economics, I have many interests—particularly technology. I do a lot with computers. This website and my mail server, as well as some other services are all self-hosted.

I enjoy electronics. I hold a Basic with Honours amateur radio license and I’m an alumni member and past treasurer of the UBC Amateur Radio Society. My callsigns are VA7KSH and VA3KSH. I regularly use analog voice and DMR on VHF and UHF, and am still working on putting together an HF station. I have spent many hours operating on HF at VE7UBC.

I am currently learning photography. I like working with film. I currently use a Minolta X-700 and an X-370 with a few Minolta/Rokkor lenses. I post my favourite photos on my blog. I enjoy taking photos of buildings and landscapes the most.

I’ve created separate pages for my résumé and my PGP public key
