Isle of Bute Trip

2018/05/23

As a break from studying before my last two exams, I went on a tour of the Isle of Bute. We took the ferry from Wemyss Bay, then walked along the West Island Way. From there, we took the bus to Scalpsie bay to look at the seals. Then we went to Rothesay, the only town on the island and relaxed in the sun for a while. There are a lot of photos in this post, I narrowed it down by a lot, but it was difficult to eliminate any of these.

The first few photos I took are from the thirty minute ferry trip. It was great to walk around on the deck and enjoy the weather and the breeze.

Once we got across to Bute, we had some great views from the West Island Way.

These speed limit signs are everywhere here, but I finally took a photo of one in Bute.

After the walk along the shore, we took the bus to Scalpsie Bay, an area known for the seals that sunbathe on the shore. At this point, I was pretty tired, so I left my backpack and my (rather heavy) zoom lens on the bus. A 50mm lens wasn’t the best for taking pictures of the seals, but I made do. The light was difficult anyway.

My 85mm, or even my 200mm lens that I left in Canada would have been great here. Oh well…

After hydrating and changing film on the bus, we were in Rothesay. I didn’t do much there. I looked through a few bookstores, had a cup of tea and an ice cream, then I sat under a tree on a hill and just enjoyed the view for a while.

I really like this postbox, I’ve never seen another one like it.
